It is abstract. Abstract is hard, but it's working out.

It is inspired by the Greatest Song, Rhythm Thief by Sparks.

The video is also awesome.

I was distracted these weeks, so I didn't take a lot of early shots. Don't worry, they were mostly boring.

so. will post finished shots when I have them.

Thank you for your messages and listening to me mope. My brain chemistry's all fucked up right now and I'm not sure why, but I think I'm through the worst of it. *hugs*

I have gotten a new computer! It is named Lappy 4000 for the moment. Am thinking about ridiculously geeky fandom name though. It has windows 8, and I am currently deciding if it is worth the fuss. (not certain) Music is downloaded, background set, fucking norton uninstalled, and I am starting to figure out  buttons. (no number pad, noooo) Most of the programs I need are back on, but I'll get those later.

David Bowie has a new album! It is awesome! I don't even know what to call it genre wise, but hey, it's David Bowie. He can do whatever the fuck he wants.

It is currently spring break. In theory this means homework and relaxation. In practice this means 35hr work week and occasionally scrambling at homework. Also, I work closing most of this week. Which sucks, a lot. Especially since the closer I worked with last night... well, she's my least favorite coworker for a reason. I don't often close, it's not my fault if I don't know what to do. I do what I'm told when I'm told to do it. And your steady stream of bitching for THREE HOURS was a wonderful soundtrack to my work, btw.

At least tonight is my last night for a while.

I have managed to make progress on my art project though. Doing the wire part. Will post pictures...later.

Writing has not happened much at all. Though I have been scribbling a vaguely directedverse Ff7 thing. Never wandered into it before, but read a fic that took over my soul and, yeah, it happened. Might post it when it's presentable.

So. This is a brief summary of The State of the Star.

My mom got a full time jooooob.

She's been working a couple of hours a week, but that's not really enough even on a nurse's pay. But she was offered a full time spot!

*dances in chair*
splinteredstar: (bowie)
It was still standing and apparently stable!

It just about works, I think.
slightly more flying fish than angel, but oh well )

I forgot to take a full shot today. Will get one tomorrow. But these are the in progress shots.

I am not dead. Just busy as a busy thing.

I made a sculpture! It is hanging on the wall in the art building. I will post pictures when I get better ones.

I am a busy busy thing. I hope you are all well!

Thank you for comments and all. My mood is all over the place lately.

I spent the day with best friend and we raided a bookstore today. I bought way more young adult fantasy than I probably should have, being in that mood, but oh well. Currently reading a book called Article 5 by Kristen Simmons, which is a part of an apparent rash of dystopian books. I love dystopias, mind, but trend books are always questionable. Also this book is trying very hard to be an updated version of The Handmaiden's Tale by Margret Attwood. Which isn't really a thing that needs updated.

I also got I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (I have never seen so obviously a fake name), which I've heard good things about for a while; The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, which has caught my eye for frankly years; Little Brother by Cory Doctorow - wait, I just now noticed the author's name. I got it because Neil Gaiman recommended it. Go attention span. And I got Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Random Riggs. Because it looks wonderful and creepy and about freak show children.

I dyed my hair black! I have never dyed my hair before. But I bought a box of black on a whim and best friend helped me dye it.
haiiir  )

apparently it's not a major switch. So there's that. Though I keep going "...*pat pat* is this my hair."

School starts on Monday. Spending time not thinking about that.

See you all!

I slammed my thumb in a car doooooor.

and locked it

so there was about thirty seconds of frantic handwaving at my mother who was driving (who later told me that she was thinking "why are you still there?) and then she unlocked it and I started whimpering

I did not scream nor was there a stream of swear words. I'm kind of impressed by this.

And since this was right as I was going to work, I went in and explained to a manager that I had just injured myself so I might end up being a bit late. She got me an ice pack though while I curled up in pain.

my thumb is purple....
splinteredstar: (Pride scribble)
This is what happened this year, roughly in chronological order:

-My then girlfriend making an utter shit show of her life
-Switching majors
-Grandmother dying Christmas morning.
-Getting kicked in face by new major
-Mom having a cancer scare
-Breaking up with girlfriend
-Getting a new job
-Getting into a car accident
-Having panic attacks at work
-Helping brother move on short notice after his roommates threatened to kill him
-Getting into *another* car accident
-Funeral for Grandmother
-Finding out my best friend had a major depressive episode (that I didn't know about) that's still fucking her over
-Taking physics with the professor my girlfriend cheated on me with
-Getting kicked in face by major again
-Mother losing job
-Finding out I failed calculus

That is twelve months. And I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something.

I am out of feelings. Just. Completely out of them. I don't even have much panic left.

All I can do is keep walking.

splinteredstar: (bowie)
So. On the plus side - finals are over! I do not know what my grades are yet. But I am at least half certain that I didn't fail.

On the down side, my mother was fired from her job. It was her own fault. We've talked about it, and I'm not mad at her. But there are plenty of places in the area that she can apply. We'll see what happens.

I'm too tired for more detail.

Edit:

Okay, explanation. My mother is a nurse, she made a medication error that could have (but did not) cause bodily harm. This is the second time in six months, so, she was let go. She waited until after my physics final to tell me, for which I am grateful. Now, my first instinct is "WTF DID YOU DO." and general rage, because, well, she did kind of fuck herself over and my life will be more difficult because of it. But we talked about it and I clarified that she accepted responsibility and knew how to prevent this happening in the future, so, I'm not angry.

As long as she's willing to learn from her mistakes and not blame other people, well, that's all we can do and we'll move on. (otherwise there might have been shouting.) Harsh, maybe. But no harsher than I am on myself. It's the standard I try to hold myself to, it's only fair I hold her to it.  We'll get through, and it's not like there aren't a dozen places around here that hire nurses.

On the "i don't even know" side, my new roommate is apparently moving in tomorrow instead of in a couple of weeks with the new semester, so that'll be fun. Chinese (possibly) girl, seemed about as painfully awkward as I felt. I'll keep my stuff out of the way and then make myself scarce.

I don't even know how I feel right now.
splinteredstar: (Nyaaaaaaan)
I have taken four tests today! I am not dead! I am also getting over my sickness!

Though I am going to buy myself some ice cream after dinner. Because some days you just look at the universe and say "fuck it, I'm buying ice cream."
splinteredstar: (omg)
i have four tests this week, finals next week, and according to the doctor i saw this morning, acute sinusitis.

i'm pretty sure i'm dead. at least i'll be too tired/awful feeling to panic.
splinteredstar: (Default)
So, I made a wire sculpture. It is like, three inches tall. Made out of a tiny vase I got for 75 cents, and wire harvested from old notebooks.

It is kind of pretty. I was done with it (fun bit was over), so I left it in a trafficked area for someone else to find.  Hopefully someone took it home and will enjoy it - even if not, I put a little wonder into other people's lives.

Anyway. Photos.
cut for photos )

Might make another one, some time.

splinteredstar: (Kimbley)
So I failed my 1st physics test. Badly. Like 46/100

It made me feel better that many of my classmates (many who are better at it than I am) failed only slightly less badly. But still, I was... shellshocked for about a half hour.

Then I curled up and remembered that it was about the same score I got on my first chem and calc tests last year, and I came back from those fine. (And chem by a half decent margin.)

Few failures are forever - this is not one of them. And this year I have a better idea of the kind of system I need, which should help. Also, I'm done with KH3d, which should help. (Sign I've played too much: I've caught myself staring at lamposts longingly, wishing that I could jump into flowmotion.)

I think I will post a thing. Though it could use editing... later.

So I had an engineering class. Freshman Design and that. Prof had one of those "help me identify you" quizes because it was the first day.

The questions went like this. 1. Name. 2. Highschool, year of graduation. 3. What kind of engineering? 4. In 1 or 2 sentences, explain the Fenderalist Papers. 5. What is the capital of Norway? 6. What is the anti derivative of an exponential function?

See if you can pinpoint the exact moment I realized that my professor was trolling us.

It's going to be a fun class.

Have a intro engineering class full of FUCKING FRESHMEN because i'm doing it all late. But at least I'm not the only girl there! I mean there's like 8 in a class of 150, but still. Though I think I got hit on as soon as I sat down.

I don't know if I told y'all this, but I had a sort-of-friend-sort-of-girlfriend that...well, it ended badly. Like, me in tears in the middle of work badly. We haven't spoken since. But on my first day I saw her twice. (curse our similiar majors.) I think we're ignoring each other at this point, which is how I'd like things to stand.

Sometimes, no matter how brilliant or charming someone is, you have to acknowledge that the relationship is posion and there's no point staying in it. You have to realize that no matter whose fault it was, the two of you are so made that you end up hurting each other. So now, I'm just going to pretend that we don't know each other. (and sometimes listen to trashy awful break up songs.)

Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Working after not having to for a while really messes with one's schedule.

I started Hunger Games, having found a cheap version and wanting to know the reason for the fuss. Initial reaction: "eh, but maybe." Katniss is better than a lot of heroines (having won me over rapidly by volunteering) but still kind of a sue.

Have had little time to write. Working on memes though.

however AVENGERS IS AWESOME OH GOD I NEED TO WRITE A LOKI REDEMPTION STORY. LIKE RIGHT NOW. because FEELINGS.
