It is abstract. Abstract is hard, but it's working out.
It is inspired by the Greatest Song, Rhythm Thief by Sparks.

The video is also awesome.
I was distracted these weeks, so I didn't take a lot of early shots. Don't worry, they were mostly boring.

Spring break was mostly spent figuring out those side bits. I knew I wanted something woven, but finding something that was long enough to be usable and flexible enough to make it tight took a few days. And then the rest of spring break was spent doing ALL OF THE WEAVING.
I'm kind of tired of weaving. I was going to do more on the side bits, but I couldn't get them tight enough. So I stuck pieces in there to keep them out of the way, on a whim....

...and realized that actually looked kinda cool. So I went with it. the whole project has kind of been like that - I was going to pain the wood a solid black, but did a couple of thin coats and realized the grain showing through was kind of awesome. So I left it that way.

Closer shot of one of the sides. It wasn't that hard once I knew what I was doing, but again, ALL OF THE WEAVING.
But it looks cool.

There has to be a plaster bit. I carved it and painted it blue, but I decided that I didn't quite like the shape of this one yet, so I scraped bits off....

and everyone went "HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS COOL" so I went "huh, yeah it does" and went with it. It's that kind of a project. This is the other piece of plaster, which goes underneath, inside the cage of wires. Bigger piece is going to be suspended and I'm not sure how yet. Also, hey, look! my thumbs!

added these today. Was thinking venus fly trap, but ended up more radio towers instead. Which considering the inspiration, is kind of perfect actually. Again, this is that kind of a project.

detail shot! including the smears of plaster which get FUCKING EVERYWHERE.
so. will post finished shots when I have them.
