He keeps a mental tally of the people that have died because of him, because he wasn't fast enough or smart enough.

He buried the circus crew, no funeral or fanfare, no names except their aliases, no dates - but he visited, once, and left a chocolate on Doll's stone. (I have that fic, half-finished, somewhere...)

He only visited his parent's graves once, and didn't look back when he left.

He obviously believes in the supernatural, and goes to church because it's appropriate, but he's something of an atheist. If there was any god interested in helping humans, then he would still have both eyes. (Aaaand another fic I need to finish sometime...)

Speaking of which, he's always surprised his eye doesn't burn when he takes communion.

When she pulled out her swords, it was the first time that Ciel thought that LIzzie might be a partner and not a burden.

Not that he plans to tell her about what happened to him.

He gives people second chances, if he thinks they'll take them - collecting a group of loyal servants, yes, but also because he was given a second chance himself, and if he gives the demon's offer to others it is only fair.

He believes himself to do what is necessary - to be a monster - to be a tool. (He believes things that aren't always true.)
