A+B)Most pairings for Kimmi are equal in my head, but I think the the people I'd most like to see him with right now are Marcoh (fuck, that would be an amazing meeting) and VH, because I think the sheer *power* in VH would drive Kimbley batty until he understood it.

C) Kimbley/Archer, because I don't like the anime characterization, and nothing else is ever written.

D) A lot of people think it's killing that gets him off - but I think what he's attracted to is *power*. Killing people just happens to be a potent symbol of power - as are explosions. (It wasn't the sight of dismembered and bloody Ishvari that set him laughing - it was the sheer force of the blast.)

E.) Anyone who did not have some visible strength to them - even strength of will. So... Yoki, maybe?

A+B: Well, Kimbley/Stone is basically canon, so him/Hohenheim isn't necessarily that big a stretch. At least, not on his part.

C: Yeah, I never really got this one either. I mean I understand why people go there, inasmuch as they spend some time working together, and they're both a little bit unhinged, but I never really got the impression that they actually cared much for each other. And yes, manga!Kimbley > anime!Kimbley, by miles.

D: Agreed completely. Is part of what makes his being absorbed by Pride so appropriate.

E: IIRC, at his one meeting with Yoki, the guy was pretty much weeping with fear, and then two seconds later Scar showed up and nearly killed him. Chances are, he barely remembers the other guy who happened to be there after that, so yeah, can't really dispute that one. Really, I'm not sure I see him falling in love at all. Isn't quite his style.

E: I don't know, I don't think he's incapable or dismissive of love...he might not understand it, but he certainly respects it. It's hard to call, really. But yeah, I think he wouldn't fall for anyone in particular. (He'd be as confused as anyone if that happened.)

Kaiba first.

A. Prideshipping. This is partially your fault. I think...there's definite canon subtext here - it always makes me laugh in DK how Yami is all, "oh okay we'll go help Grandpa WHAT KAIBA IS HURT HOW DARE PEGASUS HE WILL PAY." Kaiba is almost worst, what with all the "you make my blood burn" lines and all. More than that, though, I think they are a good match - they exist in the same world; shaded six degrees or so off of normal, an extreme place that few survive in, but those who do find normal life an ill fit afterward. Kaiba honestly respects Yami, and *wants* him (wants him as a lover or a rival but *there*) which is more than can be said for most people.

B. Kaiba/YnB. Again, these two have that same sense of... companionship in the abnormal, almost. A sense that even if they're both insane and fucked up, at least they make sense to each other. Also, they operate the same ways - if his family had been murdered and a demon had been handy, you know Seto would have struck the deal in a heartbeat. Plus, I think they'd enjoy trying to outwit each other via the security systems - YnB trying to break in and Kaiba trying to catch him.

C. ....hmm. Probably Kaiba/Jouno. It could happen, but it wouldn't be pretty. Not that *that* ever stops me, but...part of it is that honestly, Jouno bores me to tears, and there's that sense of companionship that's missing. Jouno and Kaiba exist in different worlds, operating in different spheres. They... don't speak each other's language, and neither is particularly interested in learning. Mostly it's the lack of interest in Jouno for me, I think. He's fine, but he's not my bunny.

D. Kaiba was not sexually abused. There might have been innuendo, but Gozy never really touched him. He's been through enough, fans, Plz stop it.

E. Hurm. I agree, Shizuka. She wouldn't even register on his vision, and if she did would blast her for loving Jouno, who he probably thinks is an even bigger failure at big-brother-ness than himself. (She wouldn't like him much either, honestly. She's protective of Jouno, and would not cavort go with someone he hated.)

I know. I love the way Yami goes from “I’ll never forgive you, Kaiba!” to PEGASUS HOW DARE YOU!!!!1111!!!!! without being aware of the switch.

I agree about Jounouchi too – the thing I find most interesting about him is that he really seems okay with the whole I tried my best and that’s okay even if I didn’t take first place thing – and I can’t imagine an attitude that Kaiba would find harder to understand or respect - although it would be a sign of a healthier outlook if he could (lol).

Greed/Ling/etc

Okay, they're really a set for for me, so this ends up a little bit complicated.

A) Okay. OTP and Runner Up are close, but I think Greed/Ling itself wins out. The appeal of this is, really, because they *don't* feel destined for each other - this isn't like Yami/Yuugi where they're obviously meant to be a set, obviously interlocking pieces. Greed and Ling aren't perfectly matched, and they have a much more complicated and interesting relationship. (there's also an element of a power struggle: "..I own you." "Prove it." "Well, if you waaant...." )

B) Second, I think, is Ed/(Greed)Ling. (I'm not sure if adding Greed would make it more interesting, but I am willing to consider it.) This is actually my favorite Ed pairing, and it's one of my favorites for Ling. Again, it's not a perfect match and it's more interesting because of it. And I definitely think there's chemistry there...partially, I think it's because they both seem so young sometimes. I normally shy away from shipping Ed because he feels so much younger than he is - but so does Ling, sometimes. In that way, they do match - and more than that, really, because they treat each other like normal people. Ling was probably amazed, pleased, and more than a little bit intrigued to find someone that doesn't let him get away with everything because he's a prince.

c) Well. This one is a bit odd. Ling/Ran Fan. I am willing to ship this but...not as the relationship currently stands, I guess. It's possible, certainly. I prefer relationships where there's more of a power balance, where there's some sense of equality. Ling and Ran Fan are not equal, and it will be quite a while before Ran Fan is *willing* to be equal with Ling. I'm not really interested in submissive servants who do it because they're in love with their master. Ran Fan's motivations are more complicated than that, but I'm not sure how often it comes out in fic. Also, I think making their relationship romantic might sort of...cheapen their devotion. They love each other, deeply, but making them do it out of romantic love would make it seem...selfish, almost. But that's my quirk, more than anything.
So yeah. It could work, and there's potential, it's just...not quite right.
Ran Fan/Greed however, is fucking amazing.

D)Well, I'm not sure about the fanon for these two... Hmm. I certainly think that Fuu does not get nearly enough screen time from the fans. I mean, come on, fans! Badass old guy! Give him some love! *has a special place in her heard for badass old people* He's important to Ling. Deal with it, and write him damn it.

E) Hm. They're both pretty free with their affection, so I can't see either of them...Well. Father, perhaps obviously. That works for both of them. (Though pre-running away Greed might do it..)

I find Ed/Greed cute too – mainly because I imagine them complaining about the other being stubborn. And yeah, there’s a lot of really interesting power issues between Greed and Ling, and also a sense they are a lot less sure of how they blend than either would want to admit.

I agree with you on Ling and Ran Fan. I’ve never liked pairings that unbalanced, where there’s a kind of institutional devotion involved. And yes, I find devotion more interesting sometimes if it isn’t romantic/sexual in origin. Like in Yu-Gi-Oh! I find the idea that Mahaado is devoted to Atemu because he’s the divine pharaoh more interesting than if it was based on romantic love.
