More of that Seto and Snape thing...

Right. Feeling less emo now. Thank you to everyone who commented. Hugs, love, and sugary treats to you al.
This is more of that HP/YGO thing I had a while back, where I shove Seto and Snape into each other. Takes up where the last one left off.
He quickly concealed his schematics and analyzed the two men walking in. The
older one in front was obviously the one in charge, so Seto scanned over him
first. The man wore the expression of a kildly old grandfather - probably
thinking that the Orphan Kaiba would have a weakness there. He also wore a
bright purple pant suit that momentarily and unpleasantly reminded Kaiba of
Pegasus, and - were those high heels? Kaiba filed away mental notes on the man -
irreverent or silly, condecending, wily but not good at hiding it, thinks he's a
far better actor than he is. Basically the same as most businessmen who were
unfamilar with Kaiba, but potentially dangerous none the less.
Kaiba glanced over to the other man, who actually seemed to know how to dress
himself...even if he apparently thought that greasy hair was still an acceptable
look. His face was schooled into pleasant neutrality and his stance polite - an
act, but a good one. It might have even worked if Kaiba hadn't spent most of his
life wearing the same mask. Still, Kaiba's instints set off quiet warning bells
in his mind, telling him to keep an eye on this second man, because he knew how
to kill. And Kaiba's instincts rarely failed him.
Kaiba stood, shaking each man's hand in turn - the western custom, he knew, but
he found that western businessmen were less awkward and more likely to do things
his way when they used their own customs. Besides, he was never fond of bowing.
"Greetings, Mr. Kaiba." The older man smiled as he took his seat. "I'm glad you
could met with us. I am Albus Dumbledore and this is my colege, Severus Snape."
"I am always willing to met with potential partners. Now, I understand your
company has a project you with wish my assistance on? I have heard very few
details about the project."
The old man chuckled slightly, causing Kaiba to raise an eyebrow. Dumbledore
leaned foward a bit, steepling his fingers and smiled, asking,
"Mr. Kaiba, do you believe in magic?"
...oh please.
Kaiba snorted. "Sir, do not waste my time."
The tinkle in Dumbledore's eyes didn't fade. "Is that a no?"
"Yes. Do you have something worthwhile or do I need to ask you to leave?" This
is what he got for taking appointments without solid information...because
obviously he didn't have enough nutjobs in his life.
That annoying chuckle again. "Now, now, please, listen to me for a moment. What
if I could prove it?"
Kaiba made a show of sighing. "Is there a point to this? I do have things I
could be doing rather than listening to pipedreams."
The second man - Snape? - sighed, covering his eyes with one hand. "Albus, allow
me." He stood, and adressed Kaiba without waiting for a response.
"The reason we are here is because, as you already know, we need your assitance
with a project. We can do many things with our magic," Snape scowled at Kaiba's
snort, "However, strong magical fields make non-magical technology fail. We
would like to remedy this, however, no one in our society has enough knowledge
of nonmagical technology to be able to integrate them. You are the technological
leader of the nonmagical world, Mr. Kaiba, and we have every reason to believe
that you will be able to help us."
Kaiba considered this. It was still ridiculous, but at least this man had gotten
directly to the point and hadn't played with him. That was preferable, even if
the point in question was laughable. Kaiba responded,
"Give me one reason that I should believe this is anything other than the
product of too much LSD." Kaiba could tell it wasn't a scam - as stupid as it
was, these people believed what they were saying. But of course, so did Pegasus.
Snape looked to Dumbledore, who nodded. "Would a demonstration count?"
Why was he putting up with this... was this afternoon really that boring? Kaiba
sighed again, and nodded.
"If you must."

Date: 2008-12-12 02:36 pm (UTC)And a lot of his internal comments -- like about Snape's hair or not liking to bow just made me luagh because I could hear Kaiba saying it.
One minor question/quibble is that I have a hard time seeing Kaiba addressing Dumbledore with "Sir" especially if Dumbledore's just asked if he believes in magic. I wasn't sure if it was meant sarcastically, but otherwise, although it might be common business usage (I'm not sure on this point) it seems too polite for Kaiba and almsot to much of a concession of power, especially since Dumbledore was the one requesting the meeting.
As we talked about the other day -- I agree with your concern about Kaiba's readiness to listen to Dumbledore and Snape. It's funny because I think every thing Kaiba says sounds like him, but I agree, I think it's better if there is an underlying reason why he's listening to them in the first place. I did like Sanpes explanation of what they wantfrom Kaiba -- it covered a lot of necessary information quickly, and it was interesting because it was in character for Sanpe and I liked Kaiba's thoughts that even if what he was saying was insane, at least he was saying it concisely.
Talk to you later!

Date: 2008-12-13 01:23 am (UTC)I don't think that Kaiba will like Dumbledore much, really. Kaiba understands hidden agendas, but he will not be used in the service of one. (At least, not without his express permission.) And Dumbledore has a bad habit of assuming that he's wiser than everyone around him and he knows best. Between him and Kaiba...things will get interesting. (Come to think of it, Snape's strident obediance of Dumbledore might end up being a straining point between Kaiba and Snape.) Right now, Kaiba is just reading his first impressions of them - later, when he realizes exactly how much he and Snape are alike he'll either be interested or horrified. I'm not sure which. (Frankly, in my head, they tend to waver between getting along wonderfully and actively trying to kill each other, with lots of what passes in their universe for friendly bickering in between.) Kaiba is very perceptive, and especially in business. He's had too much training and too many people trying to kill him for him not to be.
*grin* Yes, I'm fond of those lines as well. I tried to keep it to the grumbly amusement of the introduction. I'm not sure how much I succeeded, but it's still amusing to me. I don't normally get Kaiba right...this is fun.
...hmm. You've got a point. I imagined it as sarcastic, but it would work just as well with out the 'sir', rephrasing it as simply, "Do not waste my time." I'll have to consider that...
Yeah...I haven't quite figured that part out yet. We tossed around a few theories, and the one with Mokuba would work the best, but I haven't worked it into the prose yet. One of the reasons I've always thought that Kaiba will like Snape is that Snape is efficient. He's no nonsense, and Kaiba can appriciate that. Simple practicality is something that is sorely missing from the Wizarding World, and Snape is one of the few wizards that has a mostly level head on his shoulders. (Minivera is another, and I can see Kaiba having a decent amount of respect for her as well. And Moody.) And I was kind of thinking that Kaiba's thought process would be, "Okay, they're idiots and possibly insane, but at least he's getting to the point so I can get this over with." Most people (like Dumbledore) would take their time explaining, seriously trying Kaiba's patience in the process. Snape doesn't do that, and it's a welcome change.
All that being said, you can't tell me that Kaiba and Charlie wouldn't get along, even if Kaiba loaths the rest of the Weasley family. I may or may not shove them into each other too.
Seeya! I work all weekend (bleh) but we can toss messages at each other.
