GASP.

OBAMA USED A CULTURALLY ACCEPTABLE GREETING WHEN MEETING WITH A FOREIGN LEADER.

HOW DARE HE RESPECT JAPANESE CULTURE. DOESN'T HE KNOW THAT HE SHOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANY CULTURAL NORMS BUT AMERICA'S? OF COURSE, HE'S PRACTICALLY FOREIGN HIMSELF.

AMERICA DOES NOT DEFER AND IT DOES NOT RESPECT.

HOW CAN WE GET THOSE FOREIGNERS TO DO WHAT WE WANT UNLESS WE INTIMIDATE THEM WITH OUR SUPERIORNESS?

AMERICA IS EVERYTHING.

RWAR.

With apologies to [profile] saint_archie for biting his style.

Well...usually, it's customary to shake the hand of the Japanese Prime Minister, then step back and bow. And even then, it doesn't need to be more than a 15 degree bow.

That being said, it's much ado about nothing, and there are plenty of things to pick apart about Obama than this stupid nonsense.

It's a stupid thing to bitch about and apparently they're saying that it makes America "too deferential" and that it's risking America's position as a superpower.

I'm in a bitchy mood today, sorry.

Exactly! Being respectful means we are WEAK!

These people have obviously never been in a Judo or Karate class. I really like the way Obama isn't stuck on what has every idiot before him done, but tries to show respect in culturally appropriate ways -- I mean he's visiting them!

And the less said about the idea of Cheney being a role model, the better!

Yeah, exactly. It's like the idea that America isn't the coolest, most awesomest kid in the playground is completely foreign to them.

And ditto on Cheney, too.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to with the "much ado about nothing" part. Since when is attempting to show cultural respect a bad thing? And why do we need to keep doing everything the past Presidents have done?

Stupid, stupid nitpicking and looking for reasons to hate the guy, like that birther bullshit.
