I SAW BRAVE. IT IS AWESOME.
Jul. 2nd, 2012 06:53 pmSeriously, it's great. Ending made me cry for like. Ten minutes. And it's like the most woman-friendly movie I've seen in ages. It manages to show both the traps of traditional femininity and the strengths - the fact that some situations need to be hit with a hammer until they work, AND the fact that sometimes you need to use words.
Also. NO ROMANCE. None. Not even subtext. Not, "I'll be queen when I find a worthy king!"; no, "I can't marry because I love a farmer boy!" - it's just: "I like being in charge of my own life - and being queen is boring. Wooo, adventure!" And romance is is so obligatory in movies that to see it not there is refreshing.
Merida finds her destiny, and that destiny is not true love. You have no idea how fabulous that is.
Also there is copious pretty.
So. You all should see it.
