...ever write something that is effective and striking and technically good, it just makes you feel like a horrible person for writing it?
Yeah. I'm doing an exercise where someone else wrote down a childhood memory as a poem and gave it to me, and I get to reimagine it and write a poem of the same situation from a different perspective. I got a poem about a cute childhood memory about the girl's first dance recital when she was four, written from the pov of her unspeakably proud mother. It's adorable and heartwarming and aww.
My version has a mother of one of the other girls in the recital angry that her girl didn't get the lead position and verbally abusing her daughter for failing. It's creepy as hell, and that's me saying that.
I took a sweet memory and this is what I do with it.
What the hell is wrong with me.
*shakes head* Ah well. I'll run with it. Outside of the creepiness I like how it's going, so hey.
