In this one, Armitage Hux is abandoned on Jakku and manages to make a stable life, of sorts, there. Until one day he sees a young girl staring up at a departing ship and weeping...

splinteredstar

God you know what I want

But

Armitage and Rey: Jakku orphan squad

heyktula

OMG FUCK YES

heyktula

Like, Brendol is just like 'fuck it, bye!' and abandons Armitage there.

Armitage waits for fucking years for Brendol to come get him. It doesn't happen.

But there's another ship, and it drops off a six year old girl.

splinteredstar

She's waiting for her parents to come back too.

heyktula

Aaaaaaugh

splinteredstar

"...stop waiting," the 17 Armitage says. He's standing there to see what'll happen to the brat, not to warn away predators. Obviously. "They're not going to come back for you."

splinteredstar

The child stares up at him and scowls.

heyktula

Omg. She builds the flight simulator from scratch because "you don't even have any games here", and probably Armitage snaps at her for throwing a ball against the side of their shelter.

splinteredstar

She follows him back to his den. He's a crime lord, such as one can be here. He's still wiry, but he's good at - arranging things

It's not quite as fun as setting up death matches, but it has its joys

splinteredstar

He certainly doesn't need a brat running around the place, getting in the way

heyktula

Of course he's a fucking crime lord.

Of course.

splinteredstar

"...just stay over there and don't touch anything." He growls, and pretends he isn't calculating rations for an extra mouth

splinteredstar

(It's no wonder his father left him here, if he's going to be this fucking /weak/)

heyktula

MY HEART

Rey comes in super handy with the first month.

Armitage is in a negotiation that's about to get extraordinarily ugly.

He's very outnumbered, and not nearly well enough armed, and he's just running mental calculations on the chances of him extracting himself with all ten of his fingers. (The toes don't matter, he tells himself. He can still walk without toes.)

He doesn't even know why the fuck Rey is here, except that she suddenly is, which is /great/ because the minute they threaten her, he's going to end up doing something gloriously, self-destructively stupid.

heyktula

And they're threatening Armitage, and his plans to bolt are now fucked up because he can feel Rey standing next to him holding onto the hem of his shirt, which he keeps telling her not to do because it's irritating.

"Well, it's not like it's his /fault/," Rey says from beside him, her voice absolutely crystal clear.

Great, Armitage thinks. Good plan. Have the six year old kid tell the thugs that it wasn't his fault. Lovely.

Except they hesitate.

"what?" Armitage says.

"It's not like it's your fault," Rey repeats. She sounds pretty intense about it.

"yeah," one of the thugs says. "it's not like it's your fault."

splinteredstar

.....eeeee, tiny force sensitive rey!

heyktula

And Armitage is so mad about it, because it's so /random/.

Like, yes, great, he has all his fingers and toes. Lovely.

heyktula

But he also ended up scaling to the top of some ridiculously high wreckage because Rey wanted "the shiny thing up there".

And "I'd have caught you" isn't much consolation when you're up forty feet off the ground and the person catching you is six, and not even waist-high.

splinteredstar

The fact that there was a shiny thing up there hardly helps

(He remembers, faintly, hearing about the force. But that was just a myth, like the Jedi and loving parents)

heyktula

.... Oh no.

Oh no.

Because.

Eventually.

Armitage comes running from around back of their shelter because he can hear Rey yelling at somebody.

And she's yelling at this fucking teenage kid with sticking out ears and a big nose.

heyktula

And Armitage is just like "what the kriff is going on here" and Rey is like "I'm not going and you can't make me"

And it's only then that Armitage notices the braid.

And he thinks, oh, fuck.

No, wait.

It isn't that Rey is yelling.

It's that Rey is excited, because somebody came to get her, and Armie, Armie, somebody came to get us!

Except Armitage sees the braid.

And he realizes that there is no /us/. That this kid only came for Rey.

splinteredstar

so it's Ben? A. Not-snoked ben. Or not yet

heyktula

And the Jedi are going to take Rey, and she's going to grow up to be amazing and strong and powerful, and Armitage is gonna be stuck here.

heyktula

Yes, it's a not-Snoked Ben.

I don't know what we'd do with Snoke in this scenario.

Unless Snoke shows up first, and takes Rey.

splinteredstar

.....jeeeeesus

heyktula

And then Ben shows up after, and is like "I'm here for the force sensitive kid" and Armitage is like "Hahaha, rip my heart out again, you fucks, you already took her last week"

splinteredstar

Aaaaaaaaaaaa

heyktula

Armitage is drunk and belligerent.

splinteredstar

I was thinking it would go as canon until a tie fighter crashed on Jakku and Armitage was just like "fuck that's an order design Rey don't go near it REY WHAT DID I JUST SAY"

Yours hurts worse

heyktula

Oh my god but yours is good too.

heyktula

.... As a matter of fact, it goes so much like canon that Finn freaks that fuck out because "how did General Hux get here before me, and why is he wearing civvies?"

(Brendol had his weak son cloned, or maybe his weak son was always a clone and this is a second clone, or maybe its a droid or WHO KNOWS *handwaves*)

splinteredstar

I was thinking the order just didn't have a general Armitage and Brendol was still active. But maybe!

heyktula

Ooooh, Brendol still being active.

Yes.

(Phasma, watching and waiting for the right time.)

splinteredstar

That being said, would explain him abandoning Armitage. If he had another heir about

Phasmaaaaa

heyktula

Ben having been shielded from Snoke somehow, or learning about his heritage younger and being able to partition Snoke off into a separate portion of his brain.

Rey not having those same options.

heyktula

Rey stealing the ship she and Armitage had fixed up, and leaving for the first order because "he knows how powerful I can be".

(Ben, later: uh, and Snoke didn't realize that Rey was with you? Cuz, uh, having a Hux would have been helpful, yeah.)

splinteredstar

So many possibilities!

heyktula

Ben showing up too late, too late, too late - Rey is already gone by the time he gets to jakku. This is the seventh time, the seventh kid he didn't get to before Snoke absorbed them into the Knights.

It's limitless!

splinteredstar

Rey going to snoke, planning on getting stronger and then coming back for Armitage

heyktula

Yessssss.

splinteredstar

He said his dad was order, right? So she'll find him and bring him back

(The first time she looks into Brendol Hux's mind she wants to tear him apart)

heyktula

Oh no.

heyktula

And how can she believe both things at once - how can the power of the Order be in Snoke's hands, how can Snoke divide that same power between her and Brendol Hux, she can't be... she can't be like him, can she?

splinteredstar

Snoke keeps telling her that she'll be able to find her friend when she's stronger. But Rey has spent 13 years sitting in on Armitage's negotiations and keeps her mouth shut from there on

heyktula

She's good at playing the long game. She knows how to be careful.

splinteredstar

Meanwhile Ben is trying to decide if he should..."accidentally" kidnap this guy who loves Rey so damn much.

splinteredstar

He's an ass, but....

heyktula

!!!!

splinteredstar

In the end, he doesn't have to. Hux burns some bridges and parks himself by Ben's ship. "I'm going with you and we're finding her." He says, snarling.

Ben grins. "Great!" Armitage blinks. "I was worried I was gonna have to kidnap you."

heyktula

"I've never had to kidnap anybody before, I probably would have been bad at it." "I have," Armitage mutters, "and you would have been shite at it."

splinteredstar

Heeee

heyktula

So if Ben's been partitioning his brain, and Ben is still Ben, but Snoke is kicking around there too...

What if Ben slips into Kylo-mode once they realize where Rey is?

What if Ben Solo is a lot like his dad, and reminds Armitage of every smuggler who ever tried to cheat him out of something that he fucking well earned.

splinteredstar

Armitage sees kylo, on the other hand.... kylo he can deal with

heyktula

But near the end of the trip, Ben slips back to his cabin for a minute, and comes out all in black wearing this mask with this vocoder on it, and slams his hand down on Armitage's shoulder and intones "We have almost arrived"

Armitage jumps, and Ben starts laughing. "did you see how scared you looked there?"

And Armitage is like "uh, yeah. Scared. Yes."

Oh fuck, he thinks. Oh /fuck/.

heyktula

He can deal with Kylo. This is fine. This is fine.

splinteredstar

Not now boner, he thinks

heyktula

There's a burst of static from behind the mask.

heyktula

So, does Kylo flat out show up all "I have brought you Brendol Hux's heir!"

splinteredstar

Not if Armitage has any say in the matter

heyktula

.... Ben proposes that while they're still on the ship. There's a lot of yelling.

Or hysterical laughter.

splinteredstar

"The only response I'd have to him is to punch him. Leave the plans to me, Jedi boy"

heyktula

"technically I'm both," Ben pouts. "Jedi and..." Armitage is three hundred percent not listening.

splinteredstar

Question. Does Ben know that Armitage is Brendol's son?

I don't think Armitage advertises it, and any familial resemblance could be hidden under jakku dirt

heyktula

Just thought of Armitage all filthy and covered in jakku dirt and now I'm distracted forever.

heyktula

But maybe Ben doesn't know. I mean, there's no reason he'd be looking for Brendol's son.

splinteredstar

Whoops

heyktula

It's not like Armitage thinks of himself as Brendol's son.

heyktula

So Ben's not gonna pick that up via the surface-level force stuff.

splinteredstar

Yeah, that.

So I was thinking them getting to the order and Rey being like "i met your dad he's an asshole" and Ben just wtfing in the corner

heyktula

(the best part about the mask is that Armitage can't see Ben gaping like an idiot)

splinteredstar

Driving, brn

Be back

heyktula

(ok!)

heyktula

So if Armitage realizes he's fucked when Ben steps into his Kylo persona and stops reminding Armitage of all the people that ever fucked him over... is Ben fucked the minute that he sees Armitage working on something with Rey and realizes that Armitage is fucking /brilliant/ even though he's also filthy?

Or is Ben fucked the moment that he sees Armitage cleaned up in a first order uniform?

heyktula

Is it when he realizes that Rey and Armitage are light years ahead of him just because they've been working together for years?

splinteredstar

Is it when hux smirks at him like a goddamned hunting cat and lays out a play that's brilliant and vicious and deadly?

heyktula

That's exactly when.

"uh no," Kylo says awkwardly. "nothing to add. Looks good. The Plan looks good."

Hux just smirks harder and turns back to rey. "now, it's really important that..." Kylo is gonna die.

splinteredstar

Rey laughs in hux's head. "Really, armie?"

splinteredstar

Hux glares at her.

(That glare stopped working a decade ago)

heyktula

So it's kinda canon that pulling information out of people's minds is darkside? Is that right?

Because I'm thinking.... Snoke always wanted Ben to know that he was there, so he'd be obvious.

Ben's never learned mindreading officially from Luke, because it's pretty dark, so Ben is probably sloppy at it - and it's not like Snoke encourages grace or beauty, he wants Kylo to just go in there and yank out information.

But Rey.

Rey has spent years practicing on Armitage, because their success in business dealings relies on her being able to gently skim everything out of people.

Armitage used to get the worst headaches when she started, migraines that would put him out for twenty four hours. But he got really good at telling her "yeah, you're right behind my eyes. No, it feels like cobwebs in my head. Yes, I know you're there"

heyktula

She can just go in there and get information and it's totally fine.

splinteredstar

I don't know if it's darkside. Movie canon, maybe.

heyktula

That makes sense to me.

splinteredstar

I tend to assume that the Jedi consider it /rude/ but not actually dark

splinteredstar

....Jedi order is bad at consent.

heyktula

Jedi order is terrible with consent, wow.

splinteredstar

But I can see it working out this way regardless of the actual dark/light angle. Simply because Ben is a bull in a China shop and Rey can be subtle

splinteredstar sent a link Terra Inco...

Also, this is a really great early kylux series

splinteredstar

100% feral outer rim hux

heyktula

Oh, I haven't read this yet! It's on my marked for later.

I love feral outer rim Hux.

splinteredstar

Also. the thing i'm picturing rn.

Ben and Armitage show up on a First Order ship where Rey and Brendol are.

splinteredstar

people raise their guns and then Rey slides in, snarling that these are guests of hers and any who harm them will face her blade

splinteredstar

of course they have to be introduced to the commanding officers

and brendol is staring at this stranger and thinking that there is something /familiar/ about him

splinteredstar

and rey starts into this story about how she had been abandoned on Jakku but she was so lucky to be taken in by Armitage, who had also been abandoned and -

-and rey and Armitage snicker in their heads at the dawning shock and horror on Brendol's face

heyktula

Ahahahahahaha take that, Brendol.

splinteredstar

idk if it's strategically viable, but fuck it's funny to imagine

also armitage's hair is bleached blond in the sun

heyktula

And the best part is that Brendol can't admit it.

Because people will catch on that Armitage is brilliant.

heyktula

And Brendol's gonna be the guy that tells Snoke 'oh yeah, I ditched that kid on jakku when he was a kid cuz he was physically weak'

No fucking way, haha.

Brendol's gotta swallow that.

splinteredstar

depending on how brendol dumped him, he might try to mend ties. some bullshit about how he tried to take his son with him, or - something

Armitage doesn't believe it for a heartbeat

splinteredstar

of course, knowing brendol, he might just have said "fuck you kid i'm leaving, cry at someone else"

splinteredstar

not thinking he'd ever have to walk that bridge ever again, and so burning it

heyktula

I can totally see that. Like, brendol figuring this kid is just gonna hold him back.
