art project due on monday. reliquary box to hold something precious.
I decided to let the creepy out this time. Bones and eyeballs and stuff.
PROGRESS SHOTS

The front is a rib cage. Because I've wanted to do a rib cage sculpture for years, damnit, and my literal first thought upon hearing about this project was "OMG I COULD DO A RIB CAGE." This is what it looked like before I painted anything.

one of the ribs, painted, from the top

and from the side. I think this was the very top rib. they're actually each slightly different because of reasons that sounded good at the time.

Tiny tiny tiny bone. I put a pair on each side as decorative handles. Made out of the Softest Wood Ever. It worked out well.

This goes inside the box! It is an eyeball with twisted wire for the nerve. I've had a lingering...compulsion, perhaps? to make or draw or something with ripped out eyeballs, so, figured I may as well.

And the eyeball proper! The brown paint I originally bought was ugly, but I swiped a dry erase marker from the teacher for a bit and did the color in that. And then used paint for the flecks. It's the bit that works the best, I think.
THE FINISHED THING

I despaired at ever keeping sawdust off of anything. But here it is, complete with stand. In this shot you can only barely see the TOO MANY FUCKING NAILS i had to use to get those ribs on! (it took me two hours.)

and this is a *remarkably* shit photo of the inside. I will try and get a better one.... later.
So. It's a box, and I got to have the "yes it's creepy as hell on purpose" conversation, which is always great. But lots of people complimented it, though I wasn't sure if people like it or just were going "oh this person is terrifying i should be nice to them". Except for the older students. I'm pretty sure they meant it. Which was nice.
So. Behold the box. ...it needs a name. hm
