first day of work: survived

I am not dead.

First day, as I have been told most are, was a bit of introduction, a bit of  paperwork, and mostly “now amuse yourself until the person who trains you has time to do so.”

I spent most of the day looking at documentation, reading the employee handbook and such. Discovered that the company gives the same insurance benefits to same-sex domestic partnerships as to married couples, which is pretty cool. 

Apparently I was quite composed for a newbie. Idk how that happened. I think I used up all my panic unfreezing my car in the morning.

Congratulations on the new job! I have a lot of flist to catch up on so I'm not sure yet if you're super excited about this one, but I'm glad you've survived. I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks, and I just got the employee handout, and in one of the Q&A questions it specifically references that the company is anti-LGBT discrimination, so yay? I'm pretty sure in North Dakota you can still be fired for being gay (I live on the border, on the MN side) - but the job is in Minnesota. Anyway, good luck with the job! :)

I am... excited but also frustrated. I mean. It's not like I didn't know that I would be going into a more conservative, and frankly sexist industry. But that didn't really prepare me for finding out that the women's bathroom is on an /entirely different floor/.

Besides that stupidity, though, it's not bad. The job is fine, the people are sometimes.
