For the selfish fan in all of us

While everyone is important, it's also nice to know that one's favorite authors/artists/etc are safe after the disaster. It doesn't make the magnitude of the event any less.. but still, I'm relieved that say, Takahashi (author of YGO) is all right. I'm also still worried about Arakawa, who wrote FMA. I don't mean to minimize the thousands of people who *are* dead or missing, but... it's good to know that the people we're familiar with are all right., People (and fans) are a bit selfish that way - the names we know are the names that worry us.

This also has some information on donating, if any of you haven't seen yet.

This is good. The losses that have occurred are obviously tragic, but it's wonderful to know that ANYONE is safe. I think it's natural to be concerned about the well-being of people you know about before that of people who you've never heard of and have nothing to do with you, even if both lives are equally valuable, and it's good that all of these people are okay.

Yeah. It makes me feel a little bad, a little selfish - but I keep checking to see if my favorite author has checked in yet. (*checks again* OH THANK FUCK ARAKAWA'S SAFE. *so relieved it's ridiculous* )It's a connection thing - 10,000 people is too many for the mind to handle, too many for us to process as individuals. They sort of blur together - but these are recognizable individuals, ones that can represent the whole.

...or something like that.
