Mrou....

So, Christmas has past and it's a new year. School has started, it's cold as hell - though it is supposed to be warmer soon - and I have a cute little garlic sprout, 'cause I wanted to plant something. (I get planting urges sometimes. I'm a very planty person.) I also got several awesome CD's for Christmas, and have been listening to two of them ever since.

Because Sparks is that awesome. Anyway. Thus is my life, but now on to the interesting stuff. Fandomy stuff.

I've sorta started a series of drabblish things (read: got hit in the head with an idea and some prose yesterday) based around an idea I've had for years now. In Yuugiou, all of the characters are weird. From the Mad Scientist Seto Kaiba to the brilliant Game King Yuugi Mouto, these are not normal people. More ever, these are very public people, whose faces are plastered everywhere in their world.

So what do they look like to those who are normal? To those normal, average people who aren't tangled up in Egypt and Shadow and Magic? What does Kaiba look like to his millions of fans? What does Yuugi look like to those who watch his every duel with rapt attention? What does Jou look like now to one of his former fellow gangsters?

After all, not everyone they meet is going to be a psychopath, Egyptian or otherwise, out for their blood. Despite what it looks like in the canon.

So that is the basis of this series of drabblish things - I'm not sure on the length, yet. The characters of Yuugiou, though the eyes of the normal people. It's an idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a few years now, 'cause it's interesting, but I've never been able to turn it into a full fic. So I'm doing drabbles.

It'll also have the sorta rebirth of an old OC from a Kaiba fic I never finished. Not by name, 'cause frankly I can't remember what I named him. Hmm...I may write that series of stories now. Will have to think about that, now.

So yes. I will try to get those written soon, and posted.

I think that sounds cool – especially how Kaiba appears to his fans. Like at Death-T and again at the announcement of the beginning of Battle City (when he’s in the blimp) you can see everyone cheering for him. So it would be interesting to see how he appears to people – confident, charismatic, with none of the stuff below the surface. Also when the gang meets him they all assume he’s this rich kid who just had everything handed to him. So yeah, the contrast between the image he projects and his real self is interesting.

That’s a good point about Yugi – you gotta wonder how he appears. I mean he’s this nice, shy kid who steps onto a dueling arena and suddenly stands, walks and talks differently and has a totally different facial expression –talk about putting on a game face! Ironically people used to say that about me when I used to wrestle. Because I’d be my usual friendly self on the sideline, but the moment I stepped on the mat, I was all business. I honestly didn’t see anything but the match (well, and winning). Anyway my opponents and teammates said it was really unnerving to watch – and without benefit of a Millennium item! Interestingly my close friends weren’t surprised.

I also kind of wonder about the minor characters – like think about someone like Weevil Underwood or Rex Raptor – how on earth do they appear to people? Mind you it takes much less imagination to figure out what’s in people’s minds when they look at Mai…

But the difference between the surface these characters present and what’s under the surface sounds cool. Oh, if you post it on ffnet – please put a link here?

*smile* I'm glad it sounds interesting. Like I said, it's been bouncing around in my head for a while. I'm actually planning two for Seto Kaiba - one before Death T, and one after. Because he is vastly different between those two. (And he's fun to write about, anyway.) I'm always very keyed into contrasts and irony of appearance, and he's a wonderful example.

Hmm...I actually had planned Yuugi's as being an interview, but I might change it. But of course, I was planning on having one for Yami as well, so his can be a duel. (They're still very vague in my mind, and I only got clear views for about half of them, so the rest'll take some thought.
And random OT - I've been told I'm the same way when I spar with swords. Most of my friends have fought me once and refused to do so again.

I hadn't thought of the really minor characters...I was mostly planning to do the main characters, the ones all tangled up in the Magic of the series. (I've used Weevil as 'someone on the outside' before, even.) I might do those, though.

Really why I think this is interesting is, really, the main characters end up creating their own little pocket universe of friends, where the normal rules don't apply and relationships are always 42 degrees left of usual. Most of the minor characters aren't members of that little group, and from the outside it's got to look really weird. So I probably won't write about them, because this is really 'from the outside looking in'. Might still do Mai, though.

I will post a link when I post them on ff.net. *nods* But I will post them, in full, here first.
