Well, I'll be honest - I don't completely believe Ryuk when he says that there is no Heaven or Hell. First of all, Ryuk isn't going to be winning any honesty contests (Besides, watching Light spazz was probably fun). Secondly, the shingami at least are (or at least are heavily implied to be) spiritual beings. If there are spirits and thus a spiritual world, why shouldn't some humans end there? And thirdly, while this is admittedly very biased, I believe in an afterlife, so I'll obviously assume that there is one in a series. I tend to suspect that
I think he is - and this may end up as philosophical differences between the two of us more than anything. He killed a lot of people in the name of his cause, yes, but he was wrong, and quite frankly missing the point, for reasons that I'm planning to address in the fic. He may be honest, but it is possible to be honestly wrong.
As for the public, well, that's another thing I'm planning to address, but basically, I think there was an element of fear in there. And besides, the crime rate has nothing to do with the good or evil in people's hearts. People can be good and commit horrible crimes, and people can be evil and never do anything wrong. If Light wanted to create a world of good people, then he's going about it the wrong way.
Amnesia!Light is one of the most noble characters in the series, certainly. He makes me think of what he could have done if he never found the note. Can you image the work he could do for good?
True... Or perhaps it merely reveals what was always there but never had the chance to act? (That's what I usually think, at least.) You've got a point, though.
*shrug* He seemed to much like an attempt at an L replacement for me, when L cannot be replaced.
I'll try to get at least what I have so far done tonight (In between my Math homework of Doom!). I expect we'll have some differences on some things - just from reading your fics and some of you lj I know we have significant philosophical and theological differences. But it should be interesting, nonetheless.
