That Thor/Kh thing I keep mentioning

This also needs editing, but I'll do that at some unspecified point in the future.
This is a Thor/Kingdom Hearts crossover. It is set premovie for Thor, and at some general point in the future for KH where the Destiny Trio are traveling around saving worlds. Not too far in the future, though.
Vaguely Sora/Kairi/Riku, and potentially kind of Thor/Loki though that might just stay subtexty. Am not confident in my characterization of most of them (oddly, Riku's the one that about works.)
ANYWAY. I don't have nearly all of it typed (I have about 80 handwritten pages which I have barely made a dent into) but I do have some, and this is about the first... 1k words? or so? It seemed like a solid stopping point.
"Welcome to Asgard, travelers!" Thor boomed.
"EVERYTHING IS SHINY." Behind Sora, Riku resisted the urge to facepalm.
~
They were led before the king, a grizzly old man with a golden eye-patch. Everything here was dripping with gold and ivory, but... there was the scent of darkness, old and fresh, soaked into the dais where the throne set.
It made Riku's nose itch.
They let Kairi do the talking. Half the time the local ruler knew about Princesses of Heart anyway, and besides, Sora was generally too busy going "ooo shiny" (like he was right now actually) and Riku was, well, not the best person to give a favorable first impression.
He hadn't actually meant to nearly start that war. (Or that one.)
Riku wasn't good at talking to dignitaries, but he was good at other things. He opened his senses, closing his eyes to hide the glowing glow. They were there because the darkness was growing, condensing, around people of power. Riku wasn't good at solving things - Sora was - but Riku was good at finding out *who*, seekers of darkness and the accidental channels; he was good at smelling out the pain and jealousy and grief that the heartless fed off of. His vision washed out, colors leeching away, leaving only grays and plumes of darkness-smoke, clinging like illness.
Then he opened his eyes again, colors bleeding back into his vision. He almost sighed, because that almost made it worse - the darkness hung to the King, Odin - old and entrenched and tasting like hard decisions, like mourning, like war and love.
But if it clung to Odin - no one but Mickey was The King, not really, at least to Riku - then the 2nd prince was spewing it, jealousy and pain and self-hatred bleeding out from behind a politic-perfect mask, and all of it drenched in a love so think it was nearly poison. It was enough darkness to drown in, a potent enough mixture to damn a half-dozen worlds.
Riku knew very well.
He swore to himself. This one was going to be messy.
"Your hammer is so cool!"
"Your weapon is quite impressive as well, friend!"
Then again... Riku smiled softly. Sora had a way of sorting these things out.
~
As it turned out, the Queen had a touch of second sight, so the three of them had been expected. Which certainly made Kairi's job easier, as far as explaining went, but didn't help when Odin looked down at her and said, not unkindly,
"I think any problems with "darkness"...we can handle ourselves."
"Obviously you're not handling it," Riku said, out of turn, "Otherwise we wouldn't be here."
Kairi sighed. This is why they didn't let Riku talk.
Odin looked like he was three seconds away from escorting them off world. They could come back, but it was so much easier when everything was sanctioned... less people trying to kill them was always a good thing.
"Let them stay, father." The older prince burst in, cheerful and oblivious in his rudeness. "I am intrigued, and this "darkness"..." He grinned brightly. "It would make a fine quest."
Out of the corner of her eye she saw the younger prince roll his eyes, and she nearly giggled.
The king cast his eye over the three of them - she felt his gaze go deeper, around her heart if not touching it - and then for half a second, over his two sons.
"Very well. You will be shown to the guest rooms."
Kairi bowed deeply. "Thank you, sire. We will do all we can to help your realm."
~
They were shown to their rooms by some servant, but half way there Thor, apparently too curious to wait, sidetracked the trip.
"New friends, surely you can rest later? There are many glorious things in this realm!"
Loki sighed behind him. He was a curious as Thor, because they all dripped with power, bright and dark and new - but they were apparently visitors of some significance, and there was something to be said for decorum.
Not that these guests seemed to have much of it.
"Brother, at least let them see the rooms they will be staying in," he cut in, smoothing things over as always. "They have traveled a long way, and the many glories can wait."
"But." The obvious leader - Sora - blinked. "But why would we wait? I'm not tired."
Great. Now Thor had a double.
The rude boy shrugged. "I'm good for exploring, if you'll give us a tour. Kairi?"
The girl smiled, not looking upset at lost rest at all. "Sure. Let's go."
Loki did sigh this time, bitterness and resignation coloring his vision. Thor's ideas were always better, no matter how rude or improper they were.
But he'd given up hoping that every new visitor would share his views when he was still a child. Thor attracted the attention of all, glowing so bright that one had to look, even if it burned. That would never change.
"Excellent, new friends! First, to the training grounds, so that we may test each other as warriors!"
Not that that was predictable at all.

Sora spent an hour thwacking at Volstaag and being thwacked at in return.
It was *awesome.*
It’d been so long since he could go full out against anyone, except Riku, and even that not often, because, well… Explosions were *kinda* attention grabbing. You know. On an island.
Sora danced out of reach, flipping into a handstand momentarily. He was still grinning when he stumbled, flopping backwards onto the ground.
“Wow! You’re pretty tough!” He grinned up at Volstaag, who offered him a hand and a smile.
“You are quite impressive yourself, for a mortal.” Which wasn’t quite as bad as being dubbed a “Junior Hero”, but Sora puffed up his chest anyway, crossing his arms.
“Hey, Sora, clear the field.” Riku pushed off from where he’d been leaning against the stands. “I want to fight Thor.”
Sora grinned, bouncing up onto his feet. Thor blinked, smiling politely.
“Now, friend, you are surely strong for a mortal, but you cannot compare…”
Riku shrugged. “Why test against anyone but the best? As for the comparing,” Way to the Dawn flared to life in his grip, “We’ll see.”
Thor grinned, Mjlonir spinning into his hand. “Very well.”
This was going to be So Cool.
~
Riku ignored all rules of engagement, used an unconventional overhand style – not unheard of on Asgard, but uncommon – slid through each movement with the ease of experience, and fought with a sort of careless grace that spoke of confidence, of not being threatened at all.
At first it made Thor laugh, for to see an enemy confident made it sweeter when that confidence was broken. But on Riku is never broke – each charging thrust was side-stepped, each blow blocked – even when they connected, sending him sliding on the dirt or slamming into the benches, only resulted in a raised eyebrow that spoke clearly.
“I could do this all day.”
It made Thor offended, made him feel like perhaps he wasn’t being taken seriously, like maybe Riku was mocking him…
The boy *would* learn to respect the Prince of Asgard.
Thor shifted his stance, a little less restrained. He swung with his fury, the power contained in his weapon and his muscles slipping out – and frowned as Riku *blurred* a little as he dodged the blow.
Shadows clung to the edge of Riku’s sword, shifting and alive, like…
“Magic.” Thor snorted, straightening. “You’re using magic. That’s *cheating*.”
Riku paused, blinked – what, did he not expect to get caught? Impudent boy. But then Loki’s voice broke in.
“That’s not magic.” His brother swiftly stepped between them, a finger running along the edge of Riku’s weapon, through the liquid shadows there.
Nonsense. “Brother, clearly he has been using magic to dodge my strikes, there’s no way –“
“There are a great many things you do not understand, brother,” Loki growled out, “They are not *all* automatically magic.”
Riku had the gall to smirk at that.
“Yeah. Besides, Riku can’t use Magic.” Sora piped up from where he had been watching. He kicked his feet. “Not like I can.”
Loki cast a disbelieving glance between investigating the shadows. “You? I cannot see you conjuring up more than a headache.”
Riku actually chuckled at that, but his expression dropped the next moment when Sora’s weapon flashed into his hand.
“Watch this!”
Loki didn’t quite manage to duck before the ice hit him, so he caught it in one bare hand instead.
So yeah, this fic has a lot of angst via slapstick. not sure how I feel about that
