charles is feely too
Raven stole his first drink for him.
He's not like his mother, hiding from her husband in the bottom of a bottle - he's not like that, he knows better, it'll be fine.
He's not ashamed of his power or hers, but he knows - painfully intimately well - what happens to the different.
He just wants all of his people to be safe and doesn't understand why they won't let him.
Erik is - Erik is sharp and quick and beautiful, not just his power, not just his mind - he's beautiful like a weapon, like a thunderstorm or a saint.
He thinks sometimes he died on that beach, and sometimes he just wishes he did.
Raven is his best friend, and Erik is his love - later he'll be able to look back and see the missteps and slights they never acknowledged until too late, the wounds he made and never knew - and he wishes he could apologize even as he knows they'd never stand for it.
He kissed Erik in a cramped car, somewhere in the middle of Kansas - in a truck in the Russian snow - in a plane on the way to Cuba. (He didn't on the beach, but he wanted to.)
The beach is the last time they touch.
In a way, though, Raven hurt more, because he was never quite fool enough to think that Erik was his. But Raven was familiar, comfortable, and that was his mistake.
He just wants them back - failing that, he wants them *safe*.
