I SAW BRAVE. IT IS AWESOME.

Seriously, it's great. Ending made me cry for like. Ten minutes. And it's like the most woman-friendly movie I've seen in ages. It manages to show both the traps of traditional femininity and the strengths - the fact that some situations need to be hit with a hammer until they work, AND the fact that sometimes you need to use words.

Also. NO ROMANCE. None. Not even subtext. Not, "I'll be queen when I find a worthy king!"; no, "I can't marry because I love a farmer boy!" - it's just: "I like being in charge of my own life - and being queen is boring. Wooo, adventure!" And romance is is so obligatory in movies that to see it not there is refreshing.

Merida finds her destiny, and that destiny is not true love. You have no idea how fabulous that is.

Also there is copious pretty.

So. You all should see it.

My daughter (who's my main movie partner these days) decided that she's too old for animation (not sure what this says about me, since I haven't) at east in public - she'll happily watch it at home. But if it's this good I might try talking her into it. It actually doesn't sound like a bad mother/daughter movie.

I saw it with my mom, and yes, yes it is. You need to watch it. And Merida is about her age - (14ish) so....
