Ryuk does say that there is no heaven or hell. That doesn't meant that there is no afterlife. Heaven and Hell are types of afterlives. And the Note says, according to the translation I saw, "All humans die without exceptions. When they die, they go to nothingness." Roughtly. However, about that...

That section of the note was written by Ryuk as a 'how-to' section of the note, possibly with notes added in by Light as he discovered things. No 'how-to' I've ever seen has ever changed from how to use the weapon (or whatever) it's about to what happens after people die, or a similarly disconnected subject. Also, Ryuk would have no reason to write that in it. He wanted whoever picked up the note to use it, and such a proclamation would be more likely to scare the finder against killing, instead of making them use it. Also, most if not all of the rules in the Not apply to only the owner of the Note and/or the people killed by the Note. That rule just makes me ..suspicious, I suppose the word is.

*shrug* That's fair. Though to me, what Death Note was about was a man who was so close to being a amazing fighter for Light who could have helped a lot of people, but threw it all away in the name of saving the world. So my opinion will be coloured by that. Though I'll admit, the idea of an equal afterlife appeals to me, simply because the look on Light's face when he realizes, as a friend put it, "Exactly where he is and how many people might want a brief word with him." would be farking _Hilarious_.

And I've typed it up, so I'll probably do that tonight. I may put my first, late night draft up first, and then edit it and add to it and generally spruce it up, and then post that too.
