Well...I can see why you would think that, but I don't. Our only source in the series itself is Ryuk, and he's not exactly the most honest soul. He very well could have told Light that for the sake of watching him freak out when he died. (Besides, the rules in the Note itself are a bit iffy on the subject)But more on that some other time.
