I'm so glad you like it! And yeah, abuse recovery is complicated and important - and yeah, it's not nearly as instant and neat as people like to think it is. There are a lot of complex emotions going in to it.
(And a certain amount of me smearing my own emotions all over my favorites - Finn wants to do things /right/, wants to have the right kind of feelings.)
I have so many feelings about medic Finn, partially because I feel like the right to choose nonviolence is very important. (Related headcanon: he's the only medic that can keep Rey or Poe in the medical department long enough to actually heal. Rey in particular takes some convincing - no, you can not stitch it up yourself and go back to training that is a major injury /come back here Rey/.)
